London misses out as Nairobi secures 2029 World Athletics Championships

The Story So Far

London has been unsuccessful in its bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, with the tournament officially granted to Nairobi instead. This announcement carries implications for the home ground of West Ham United. As a multi-purpose venue with a commitment to hosting elite sporting competitions, the site often undergoes transitions between its football and athletics configurations. The decision to hold the competition in the Kenyan capital means the stadium will not be required to facilitate this specific global gathering during that summer window. Consequently, the club may see fewer disruptions to its typical off-season schedule and stadium availability during that period.
