Alan Devonshire was a mercurial West Ham midfielder. An England international who was one of the most skilful players to wear the shirt. He glided past defenders.

This was the era of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters — the three West Ham players who lifted the 1966 World Cup for England — followed by the 1975 FA Cup win under John Lyall.
