West Ham 2 – 3 Southampton | More shots, more possession, more corners – yet porous Hammers flounder

The Story So Far

West Ham United suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Southampton, losing 2-3 despite controlling much of the match. The home side statistically outperformed their opponents across several key areas, managing a higher volume of shots, maintaining greater ball possession, and earning frequent corner kicks throughout the contest. However, defensive vulnerabilities proved costly as the opposition secured the victory. The result ended a match where the club failed to capitalize on their territorial dominance and offensive pressure. Defensive lapses ultimately undermined their statistical superiority, leaving them without points despite a performance that clearly looked much more promising on paper.
