Tottenham win race to sign West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes for club record £85m

The Story So Far

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is set to join Tottenham Hotspur in a record-breaking transfer deal worth £85 million. The North London club successfully navigated competition from Manchester United to secure the Portuguese midfielder’s signature. This high-profile departure comes in the wake of the Hammers’ recent relegation from the Premier League, which has prompted several squad adjustments. Fernandes is expected to undergo a medical assessment before finalizing his move to join the squad led by Roberto De Zerbi, who recently guided Tottenham through a difficult domestic campaign. The substantial fee marks a significant transaction as West Ham navigates the financial implications of their move to a lower division.
