Championship roundup: Nuno admits West Ham ‘let down’ fans with Charlton defeat

The Story So Far

West Ham United suffered a 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic in a Championship London derby, leading manager Nuno Espírito Santo to concede that the team had failed to meet the expectations of their supporters. The defeat increases the scrutiny on the manager as Charlton maintained their unblemished start to the season. The visitors established a two-goal cushion courtesy of Lloyd Jones and Tyreece Campbell. Hammers debutant Joel Piroe, recently arrived on loan from Leeds United, scored to provide hope of a comeback. However, a stoppage-time penalty miss by Taty Castellanos prevented the hosts from rescuing a point in the final moments.
