On April 21, 1986, during West Ham’s 8–1 demolition of Newcastle United, Martin scored his three goals against: 1. Martin Thomas: Newcastle's starting goalkeeper. 2. Chris Hedworth: A defender who took over in goal after Thomas was injured. 3. Peter Beardsley: The legendary forward who stepped into goal after Hedworth also suffered an injury.
